Exploring the Sustainable Architectural Value of Forest Clubhouse

Share:

Forest Clubhouse - Bloc Architects offers a peaceful retreat nestled in the forest, overlooking existing wetlands, and includes a yoga studio, spa, and community gathering space. The design blends seamlessly into the natural surroundings, with the structure set among the lush green canopy of the forest, incorporating elements that enhance and highlight the surrounding environment.

Due to strict environmental regulations, the building area was only allowed to expand on the old foundation of a former crocodile observation building. The sensitive area’s soil and trees were not to be disturbed. For this reason, the building floats above the landscape with large elevated planes. Most of the structure is made from lightweight steel to reduce the load on the old foundation and minimize disruption in the forest during construction.

Key Architectural Elements of Forest Clubhouse, designed by Bloc Architects:

  • The building floats above the landscape with large elevated planes to minimize impact on the soil and trees.

  • The structure is made from lightweight steel to reduce the load and minimize disruption during construction.
  • Round timber enclosures house services and changing rooms, while separating private spaces from public areas.

  • Extensive use of glass and sliding doors enhances the connection with the surroundings, blurring the line between inside and outside.

  • Natural elements or raw materials are used to encourage a bond with the forest context.
  • The design incorporates natural, locally sourced materials such as stone, wood, concrete, and glass.
