Echo Energy-Generating Interfaculty Teaching Building

Share:

Echo - UNStudio - is a dynamic beacon representing sustainable collaboration and learning, nestled in the heart of TU Delft. This forward-thinking interdisciplinary building combines adaptive design with energy production, showcasing the university's commitment to a sustainable campus vision by 2030. With a wealth of teaching spaces, Echo fosters diverse pedagogical methods while enhancing the well-being of its users.

Some sustainable elements of the building:

  • Echo emphasizes sustainability with 1,200 solar panels, a smart system, and a thermal-cold storage, generating excess energy for users' needs and aligning with TU Delft's green goals.
  • Echo's design floods the space with natural light, connecting users with the campus and nature while minimizing the need for artificial lighting.

  • Sun shading and a green façade help combat excess heat, integrating natural elements into the design's functionality.

  • Fresh air from the raised floor improves indoor air quality, enhancing users' well-being.
  • Echo uses reusable steel structures and flexible layouts, emphasizing sustainability in both construction and operation.

  • Echo's spaces encourage physical movement, collaboration, and reflection, embodying a modern learning culture.
  • Bamboo accents and the central staircase create a welcoming atmosphere, encouraging interaction and well-being.

  • Echo's ground floor extends into a covered public square, connecting the building with the community.
