Recreating the Spirit of an Old Town in a Modern Home

Share:

Located in Tiptur town, Tumkur district, this house is situated on a 70'x40' plot of land in a newly developed area where no neighboring structures exist yet, and the architectural context is not yet defined. To address privacy and security concerns, the house is surrounded by a natural black granite wall, giving the impression of a solid and robust structure. Inside this stone wall, the house is deliberately arranged, creating a blend of materials and space.

The space between the house and the stone wall is designed with green landscaping and skylights, providing indirect natural light to the interior spaces. Inspired by the spirit of the old town of Tiptur, with its steps and gathering spaces beneath tree canopies, the house recreates this atmosphere through the interweaving of indoor and outdoor spaces. This idea is expressed at different levels, connecting various spaces and creating semi-public areas within the house, evoking a lively and dynamic atmosphere reminiscent of the old town.

Sustainable elements of the Interspersed Garden House, designed by A Threshold:

  • Use of natural black granite from local quarries, serving as both a security fence and a boundary to protect against future developments.

  • Landscaping and skylights are placed between the stone wall and the house, providing indirect natural light.
  • Interweaving indoor and outdoor spaces, recreating the gathering spaces beneath the tree canopies of the old town of Tiptur.

  • Different levels connect various spaces, creating semi-public areas within the house.
  • Interspersed courtyards create interesting views from different areas inside the house.
  • Use of white walls, raw concrete floors, and black granite stone walls, creating a distinctive and authentic space.

Unlocking Multi-Credit Synergies through Integrative Design in LEED v4

The realization of benefits associated with LEED starts with a transformation of the design process itself. Rather than treating credits as separate components on a checklist, an Integrative Process encourages project teams to identify synergies and interrelationships across multiple categories. By conducting early research and analysis during the "discovery" phase, teams can implement specific building features that "stack" points, achieving high levels of performance and cost-effectiveness.
