The Intersection of Wood and Water: A Unique Beauty Salon in Japan

Share:

A New Beauty Salon in Kakamigahara City, Gifu Prefecture: This salon is situated between a stream and a forest. The salon is located next to the Nagara River, one of Japan's three famous rivers, flowing to the north, and the Kiso River, which is recognized as one of Japan's 100 most famous rivers, flowing to the south. This area is surrounded by water sources and greenery, with landmarks such as the "Forest of Learning," the "Natural Heritage Forest (Forest Natural Park)," and the "Kakamigahara Alps Japan Line Unuma Forest."

Notable Architectural Features:

  • The area is blessed with an abundance of groundwater. All tap water in Kakamigahara City comes from groundwater sourced from depths of 20 to 40 meters underground.
  • Utilizing this local resource, the project will showcase water on the surface in the form of a water basin as part of the design value.

  • The upper floor features a large terrace with a sloping roof, creating a peripheral space where customers can freely use it while waiting and also serves as a rest area for staff.

  • The second floor is a semi-outdoor terrace without walls, creating an open space where wind, light, and tree branches can flow into the interior.
  • The load-bearing wall facing the parking lot is made of wooden slats instead of an opaque wall, forming a gentle space and enhancing privacy.

  • The sloped roof beams are used as crossbars instead of vertical bars, eliminating the need for load-bearing walls that separate vertical spaces.
